If I was the captain...... (part I)

WHAT THE CAPTAINS NEED TO DO FOR IPL-6 (part-I)

 (in my opinion)---

DELHI DAREDEVILS- Mahela Jayawardene

Mahela Jayawardene

Mahela Jayawardene, is an experienced, former captain of Sri Lanka! Also he has led Kochi Tuskers Kerala in there only season of IPL. This time around he will be leading a team having big guns like Viru, KP, M.Morkel, Warner, Umesh Yadav etc. It will be a test of his character! It can be a good decision by the management team of Delhi Daredevils, to opt Mahela as their captain, as it will take the pressure away from Sehwag and he will be able to play his natural game!!

KINGS XI PUNJAB- Adam Gilchrist

Adam Gilchrist

Adam Gilchrist was one of the best wicketkeeper, batsman in world cricket in his time and he will remain a legend! In IPL-2 he led the team Deccan Chargers to victory! After being bought by Preity Zinta for Kings XI Punjab, he was given a team containing lots of young Indian players and with them were some quality overseas players like Azar Mahmood, S.Marsh, Ryan Harris, D.Hussey, etc. At  the end of 4th season of IPL (2011) KXIP was at number 5, while in last year (IPL-5 2012) they finished on number 6. In this season there will be lot to think about for Gilly! He needs to somehow inspire the youngsters and take most out of them for their team!

KOLKATA KNIGHT RIDERS- Gautam Gambhir

Gautam Gambhir

Gautam Gambhir led the team, Kolkata Knight Riders, successfully in last year's IPL to victory!!! He himself was in sublime form, making lots of runs, for his team! After the failures in the first three seasons of IPL, Shahrukh Khan built a well balanced squad for IPL-4, where KKR qualified for the play-offs! With lots of experienced overseas players and good domestic talent, KKR was looking strong on paper, and they proved themselves by performing on the field and lifting the IPL trophy (2012). In the 5th season of IPL(2012),victorious KKR as a team performed pretty well, led by the in-form Gambhir! He just has one problem(?) to face, that is to chose the 4 overseas players in the playing XI from Narine, Kallis, Lee, Mendis, McCullum, Haddin, Shakib al-Hasan etc... But it is definitely good to have options like these!

MUMBAI INDIANS- Ricky Ponting

Ricky Ponting

Ricky Ponting, the most successful captain of Australia's national team in tests and ODI's, will be captaining IPL team for first time this season! Apart from IPL-2 (in South Africa) Mumbai Indians have been one of the consistent teams of IPL history, lead by Bhajji and Sachin Tendulkar! Finalists in 2010 and losing in the play-offs in the following two seasons! They performed like champs throughout the league matches, but when it comes to the big match, they don't quite rise up to the occasion! But under Bhajji MI had lifted the Champions League Trophy in 2011. This year, change in captaincy might help them because Ponting has lead Aussie team in 3 World Cup victories! It also will be interesting to see how Sachin and Bhajji play under him! Mallinga surely will be his trump card along with Pollard and Sachin!
